Project XingFu 2010
We embarked on an overseas community service project (OCSP) to Yunnan, China in collaboration with Xiji Welfare Charity Centre in early December, for 14 days.
Project 1: Yang Zhai VIllage
The bulk of our expedition will be spent in Yang Zhai village, a rural village located near Zhao Tong. There, we will build a Kindergarten cum Learning Centre as there is a lack of amenities for the education of the village children.
The Learning Centre will also be used as a weekend madrasah for the villagers where adults and school-going children will be able to gain religious education from the teachers provided by the organization.
On top of building the learning centre, we hope to make a lasting direct impact on the lives of the villagers. We will also be doing house clean-ups for several villagers and will be building chicken coops for them. Xiji has identified that many villagers live in the same space as their livestock and have found this to be unhygienic and could potentially lead to the spread of deadly epidemics. By building chicken coops, the villagers can live separately from their livestock while ensuring that their chickens are not fallen prey to the wild animals in the area.
We will also be conducting a health screening and health education talk by Dr Radiah Salim, a medical doctor based in Singapore. We hope to raise the villagers’ awareness regarding their health and hygiene through this programme.

Project 2: Hei Si Wah Village
We will be spending 2 days in Hei Si Wah Village to provide bedding (mattresses, bed sheets, pillows and blankets) for the female dormitories in a madrasah there. We will also be carrying out some repair work such as painting, replacement of old tabletops and bookshelves for the libraries.
We will also be engaging in a cultural exchange with the students of the madrasah by conducting games and ice breakers with them.
Dr Radiah Salim will concurrently be conducting health screening and health talks in the village.
